Single chests suit a narrow wall or the gap beside a built-in cupboard; double chests give you twice the drawer run and work as a dresser surface too. Drawer fronts are solid French Oak or Kiaat over a painted carcass, on full-extension runners so the back of the drawer is actually reachable. Chests of drawers: a buying guide
A chest of drawers is the deepest storage piece in a Timbur bedroom: where a pedestal holds a book and a phone, a chest holds a wardrobe's worth of folded clothing. Timbur makes single chests 900 mm wide and double chests 1,600 mm wide, all 900 to 920 mm high so the top works as a dresser surface, with solid French Oak or Kiaat drawer fronts over a cabinet sprayed in Satin White, Satin Light Grey, Satin Dark Grey or Flat Black. The two Drakensberg sideboards appear here too because many customers use them as low, wide chests. As of November 2026 the chests run from R9,195 to R16,595; current prices are in the table below.
Single or double?
A single chest (ONE or Drakensberg, 900 mm wide) fits a narrow wall or the gap beside a built-in cupboard. A double chest (ONE Double, Drakensberg Double or Tribeca Double, 1,600 mm wide) gives twice the drawer run and a top long enough for a mirror, a lamp and a tray. Depth is 450 to 500 mm, so allow about 1,000 mm in front for a drawer to open fully.
Matching the rest of the room
Each chest belongs to a range that also includes floating pedestals, headboards and dressing tables: ONE, Drakensberg and Tribeca. Order the chest with the other pieces in the same timber and cabinet colour and they are sprayed together, so the colour matches exactly. The Drakensberg pieces add a choice of handle colour; the ONE range uses matte black handles.
Construction and delivery
Drawers run on full-extension, all-metal ball-bearing runners so the back of the drawer is reachable. Cabinets are 16 mm MDF sprayed in Timbur's own spray shop; fronts and, on the Drakensberg and Tribeca, the tops are solid timber sealed rather than painted. Chests are freestanding and arrive assembled, so no installation is needed. Delivery anywhere in South Africa is quoted at checkout; collection from the Lanseria workshop is free by appointment.

What sizes do Timbur chests of drawers come in?
Single chests are 900 mm wide, 450 to 500 mm deep and 900 mm high. Double chests are 1,600 mm wide, 450 to 500 mm deep and 900 to 920 mm high. Custom widths are often possible if you ask before ordering.
Will the chest match my floating pedestals and headboard?
Yes, if they are from the same range (ONE, Drakensberg or Tribeca) and ordered in the same timber and cabinet colour. Pieces ordered together are sprayed together, so the finish matches.
How much does a chest of drawers cost at Timbur?
As of November 2026, single chests cost R9,195 (ONE) and R9,295 (Drakensberg); double chests cost R14,295 (ONE Double), R15,995 (Tribeca Double) and R16,595 (Drakensberg Double). The current price is on each product page.
Is the chest solid wood?
The drawer fronts, and on the Drakensberg and Tribeca the tops, are solid French Oak or Kiaat, sealed so the grain stays visible. The cabinet is 16 mm MDF sprayed in one of four colours, which keeps it stable and lets it match the painted pieces in the range.
Does it need to be installed?
No. Chests are freestanding and are delivered assembled. There is nothing to fix to the wall unless you choose to add an anti-tip strap, which we recommend in a child's room.
How long does a chest of drawers take?
Every piece is handmade to order in Lanseria; the current lead time is 9 to 11 weeks including the December closure, then delivery 3 to 7 working days after manufacturing. Delivery is quoted at checkout for anywhere in South Africa.
