A wall-hung TV unit does three things a freestanding stand cannot: it clears the floor, it removes the tip-over risk entirely, and it lets cables drop straight down a single channel instead of fanning across a shelf. Several models include a centre drawer sized to hide a multiplug and router. Carcasses are spray-finished with solid Kiaat or French Oak trim, and mount to drywall, brick or concrete provided the fixings suit the wall. Free installation in Gauteng when you choose delivery.

Wall-mounted and floating TV units: a buying guide
Timbur makes eleven TV units in its Lanseria workshop, from the steel-framed Industro unit to the 2.5 metre Element XL. As of November 2026 they run from R5,095 to R12,295; the current price is always on the product page. Two of them, the Strand and the ONE, are wall-hung and built in two sizes for 32 to 50 inch and 55 to 65 inch screens. The rest stand on steel legs and run from 1,500 mm to 2,500 mm wide. Every unit has solid French Oak or Kiaat fronts or tops, a sprayed cabinet in Satin White, Satin Light Grey, Satin Dark Grey or Flat Black, and is ported so cables drop through a single channel. In Gauteng, installation is included with delivery.
What size TV unit for your screen
A 16:9 television is roughly 87% as wide as its diagonal: about 950 mm for a 43 inch, 1,110 mm for a 50 inch, 1,220 mm for a 55 inch, 1,450 mm for a 65 inch, 1,660 mm for a 75 inch and 1,880 mm for an 85 inch. The unit should be at least as wide as the screen, and most rooms look best with 100 to 300 mm of unit showing on either side. For the two wall-hung units, choose the size that matches your screen range rather than the width.

How high to mount it
For a wall-hung unit, the usual target is the centre of the screen at seated eye level, which in most lounges is 1,000 to 1,100 mm off the floor. In Gauteng the installation team sets the unit height to your seating on the day. For a freestanding unit, the TV sits on top, so pick the unit height (400, 450, 600 or 800 mm) that puts the screen centre near that level.
Cables, multiplugs and routers
Every unit is ported so cables drop down one channel instead of fanning across a shelf. The ONE and Strand wall-hung units have a centre drawer front that flips down to hide the multiplug. The Haenertsburg, Kuad, Element XL and Mid-Century units have drop-down or flip-down doors with ported component compartments for a decoder, console or router.
Walls, fixings and installation
Wall-hung units mount to drywall, brick or concrete, provided the fixings suit the wall and the wall is sound. Brackets and fixings are included. In Gauteng, installation is included when you choose delivery at checkout. Outside Gauteng, or if you prefer to fit it yourself, the unit ships with mounting instructions. Freestanding units arrive assembled on height-adjustable floor protectors.

What size TV unit do I need for a 55 or 65 inch TV?
A 55 inch TV is about 1,220 mm wide and a 65 inch about 1,450 mm, so a unit of 1,800 mm or more suits both with space either side. For a wall-hung unit, choose the Strand or ONE in the 55 to 65 inch size, which is 1,640 mm wide.
How high should a wall-mounted TV unit be?
Aim for the centre of the screen at seated eye level, usually 1,000 to 1,100 mm from the floor. In Gauteng, Timbur's installation team sets the height to your seating on the day of installation.

Is a floating TV unit better than a freestanding one?
A wall-hung unit clears the floor, removes the tip-over risk and runs cables down one channel, which suits small lounges and homes with children. A freestanding unit needs no drilling, moves with you and holds more, which suits renters and larger screens. Timbur makes both.
How much does a TV unit cost at Timbur?

How long does a TV unit take, and do you install it?
Every unit is handmade to order in Lanseria with a current lead time of 9 to 11 weeks, including the December closure, and delivery 3 to 7 working days after manufacturing. In Gauteng, installation is included with delivery. Elsewhere in South Africa, delivery is quoted at checkout and wall-hung units ship with fixings and DIY instructions.
