Home office desks: a buying guide
Timbur makes five desks and two meeting tables to order in Lanseria, from a R3,695 student desk to an 1,800 x 1,300 mm heavy-duty L-shaped desk, all 780 mm high. The Home Desk (1,250 x 600 mm) and Easy Desk (1,200 x 600 mm) suit a single wall; the Home L-Shape (1,800 x 1,250 mm) and Industro HD (1,800 x 1,300 mm) give a corner return for two screens or a second work zone. Drawer fronts are solid French Oak or Kiaat over a cabinet sprayed in Satin White, Satin Light Grey, Satin Dark Grey or Flat Black; the Industro range uses a matte black steel frame. Straight or L-shaped?
A 1,200 to 1,250 mm straight desk takes one monitor, a laptop and paperwork, and fits a bedroom wall or a study nook. An L-shaped desk is for a room someone works in all day: the 1,800 mm main run carries two monitors and the 1,250 to 1,300 mm return holds a printer or a second seat. Both L-shapes are made with the return on the left or the right; choose the side that keeps the window out of your screen.
How much room does a desk need?
Allow the desk footprint plus 1,000 mm behind it for the chair to roll back. Worktops are 600 mm deep, which puts a monitor at a comfortable arm's length. Desk height is 780 mm on every model, standard for a seated chair; the Easy Desk and the Industro desks stand on height-adjustable floor protectors for an uneven floor.
Drawers, cables and frames
The Home desks and the Easy Desk have 450 mm wide drawers on full-extension all-metal ball-bearing runners; the Easy Desk's drawers are push-to-open. The Industro HD has three heavy-duty drawers and a 32 mm solid pine top on a 32 mm steel frame, built for weight. The Industro Meeting Table (1,800 x 900 mm) and Industro XL (1,800 x 1,800 mm) are the boardroom versions on a 38 mm steel frame.
Delivery
Desks are freestanding and arrive assembled, so no installation is needed. Delivery is quoted at checkout for anywhere in South Africa, and collection from the Lanseria workshop is free by appointment.

What size is an L-shaped desk from Timbur?
The Home L-Shape Desk is 1,800 x 1,250 mm with a 600 mm deep worktop; the Industro HD Desk is 1,800 x 1,300 mm. Both are 780 mm high and are made with the return on the left or the right.

Is the desk top solid wood?
On the Home and Easy desks the drawer fronts are solid French Oak or Kiaat over a sprayed cabinet and top. The Industro HD has a 32 mm solid pine top. The meeting tables have a Black Cherry Melawood top on a steel frame.
Can I get a custom desk size?
Often, yes. Every desk is made to order, so widths and depths can usually be adjusted to your room. Email info@timbur.co.za with the size you need before ordering.
Does the desk need assembly?
No. Desks are delivered assembled and ready to use. Choose the left or right orientation when you order an L-shape.
How long does a desk take?
Every piece is handmade to order in Lanseria; the current lead time is 9 to 11 weeks including the December closure, then delivery 3 to 7 working days after manufacturing. Delivery is quoted at checkout for anywhere in South Africa.
